Liveability Talks with ex-mayor of Riga Mārtiņš Staķis

In cooperation with partners in the Liveability project partners the Danish Cultural Institute is bringing people and ideas together across borders to learn and share fresh perspectives.

On Thursday, 15 May at 13.30 CET we invite you to join the Liveability Talks session “Leading a capital: a mayor’s story” with the former Mayor of Riga, a Member of the European Parliament (Greens/EFA) Mārtiņš Staķis.

In this talk, Staķis will reflect on what it really means to be the mayor of a capital city. He will speak about the opportunities and challenges of applying a top-down approach and share what he has learnt from working within city systems to drive change.

During his time as Mayor of Latvia’s capital, Mārtiņš led several bold and impactful initiatives that transformed the way the city operates. His leadership focused on creating a more sustainable, people-centred and forward-thinking urban environment.

The talk will be most interesting for people working in city administrations, public service design or urban development areas.
