Danish jazz rounds off the Danish EU presidency in Latvia

Danish jazz pianist and conductor Nikolaj Bentzon works with Karlis Vanags "City Jazz Big Band" and the Danish soloist Signe Juhl when rounding off the Danish EU Presidency with the concert "1001 Arabian Nights Jazz" in Latvias radio building. The concert will be offered via the EBU network to all of Europe.

On Thursday the 7th of June the audience of Riga and later the rest of Europe get the opportunity to see Nikolaj Bentzon, one of the largest Danish jazz names, live in concert with the young vocal talent Signe Juhl. They are accompanied by Karlis Vanags "City Jazz Big Band" after a week long collaboration for an evening featuring renowned jazz classics mixed with new compositions taken from Bentzon's CD "1001 Arabian Jazz Nights".

The concert will be offered to members of the European radio and television co-organization EBU, and can thus be heard across the most of Europe.

Nikolaj Bentzon has for years been active as a pianist, composer and conductor for several successful touring and recording sheet hissing ensembles including Nikolaj Bentzon Trio and Bentzon "Brotherhood". For many years he was associated with DR Big Band as a pianist and conductor.

Signe Juhl debuted in December last year with the album "Silvertounged", a collaboration with Nikolaj Bentzon Trio which gave her great reviews. Juhl's vocals is original and light and is founded in both the great, old jazz divas like Ella Fitzgerald and Nina Simone, but also in the American singer-songwriter and folk tradition in the form of, for example. Joni Mitchell and Neil Young.

The concert is the penultimate event in the extensive culture programme of the EU Presidency in Riga.

The concert is organized by the Danish Cultural Institute in Latvia in collaboration with the Royal Danish Embassy, Jazz Festival Rigas Ritmi and others.
